Anti-Virus

There are numerous programs available, most of which will detect thousands of virus types. However new ones are being created every day. You need to ensure that your program automatically updates it's anti-virus reference files every day and that an automatic check of your system is scheduled every day.

Whatever anti-virus measures you take the most important message is concerning YOU, the user -

DON'T OPEN ATTACHMENTS ON EMAIL MESSAGES UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN THEY ARE GENUINE! - DON'T ASSUME THEY ARE!

Some of the emails trick you into opening an attachment. If you are asked to confirm your personal details it's probably a scam. You can type the subject line into Google and see if other people have reported it as a fake email.

- if in doubt, don't open it!

 

This is our favourite anti-virus program as it causes the least disruption to you whilst working.

Try to remember where you kept the code number that was emailed to you when the product was first registered. If you change your PC (or the hard disk is replaced) you will need this code to reactivate the product.

McFee Site Advisor

I am testing McFee Site Advisor that add an OK or Warning on the list of sites that Google finds - or the pages that you open. It's an excellent idea - and free! It suprising how many web sites contain links to bad sites or have downloads that spread viruses or spyware.
